James M. Keith, CGCS, is a 1993 graduate from the University of Illinoisand holds a bachelor degree in Ornamental Horticulture specializing in Turf Management. Jim earned the designation of Certified Golf Course Superintendent in Januaryof 2000 after completing a rigorous exam covering 6 different categories related to
his field. He has worked at various clubs since starting in golf course maintenance at the age of 14. The courses he has previously worked at include Snag Creek Golf Course, Illinois State University Golf Course, Champaign Country Club and Bellerive Country Club (Home of the 1992 PGA Championship). He has mentored under nationally known superintendents such as Tom Van De Walle, currently of Sunset Country Club in St. Louis, MO. He currently serves on the Rainbird Irrigation Advisory Council and is a member of the national Golf Course Superintendents Association of America and regional Midwest Association of Golf Course Superintendents.
“Jimmy” is entering his 14th year since joining the St. Charles Country Club team in May of 1993. He was named the Superintendent in the fall of 1994. His objectives are simple: to create the best playing conditions possible for the members of St. Charles Country Club and their guests. In doing so, he has surrounded himself with key people who are loyal, hardworking and can make decisions on a daily basis.
Our Superintendent is married to his grade school sweetheart, Melanie. They have 2 children, Dylan and Madie. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, gardening, riding motorcycles and golfing. His favorite pastime is spending quality time with his family. He is very involved coaching baseball and basketball throughout the year with his children in Elburn.
